We interviewed Satomi about her creation:
Kokka Fabric (KF): What did you think of the fabric you used for this project?
I designed this piece to take advantage of the softness of the double gauze fabric, allowing for delicate drapes.
KF: Can you tell us any special elements or ideas that you incorporated into this creation?
This is a one-piece dress with a ribbon tied at the shoulder as an accent. I had a lot of fun making this dress, wondering where to place the patterns to create a lovely look.
KF: What are some tips for making this dress?
It’s a good idea to have a little extra fabric on hand, allowing you to arrange the motifs as you like when matching patterns.
KF: How should we incorporate this dress into one’s styling?
With such a striking pattern, kids can wear it on its own and still look stylish! On cooler days, it can be paired with a long sleeve shirt underneath for added warmth.
KF: Thank you very much, Aiko! Here are sewing instructions along with step by step photos from her. Enjoy crafting!
Instructions
1. Pattern the body outer, lining and skirt fabric. Start by working on the front pattern placement, then cut the back portion by aligning the sides.

2. Gather the skirt fabric by pulling it evenly. Start by matching the center, then pull a little at a time, alternating between the right and left sides.

3. Sew lining together and trim the curve. To ensure a clean finish and avoid an uneven ribbon edge when turned inside out, it's best to trim the excess seam allowance.

4. The lining has been sewn and turned inside out. Before stitching, press the fabric to align it, and use a needle to gently pull out any fabric for a smooth finish.

5. At this part, the lining is hand-sewn. To keep the seam hidden, gently lift the fabric on the seam allowance side and sew it in place.
