Amelie Mancini: Art Inspired by Nature

About Amelie Mancini

Amelie Mancini is New York-based painter, printmaker, and textile designer. Amelie’s work is rooted in a fascination with color, pattern, and the expressive possibilities of line. Working from her imagination and a love of traditional hand printed textiles, she carves landscapes, animals, and botanical forms into linoleum blocks.

"I really enjoy drawing all the different elements: the animals, plants, rocks, trees, and birds. There are lots of little details to discover when you look closely. I love that feeling in a pattern, where something that initially reads as a whole landscape reveals smaller surprises the longer you look at it."

Terra Collection: Three Designs, Three Little Worlds

Forest

Inspired by the mysterious woods of fairy tales, Forest depicts an imagined landscape filled with the magic and wonder of the natural world. Its intricate details encourage you to explore the design, discovering plants and other elements nestled throughout the scene.

Owls

Looking up from the forest toward the night sky, Owls imagines birds flying among the clouds. The design brings together the quiet beauty of the sky and the expressive lines characteristic of Amelie’s printmaking.

Joshua Tree

Inspired by a trip to Joshua Tree in California, this design captures the distinctive landscape of the desert, with its unusual rock formations and striking plant life. The experience of encountering a place so different from New York gave Amelie a fresh perspective on light, color, and space.

From Original Artwork to Fabric

Translating artwork into fabric involves more than simply transferring an image onto cloth. The scale of the motifs and the rhythm of the repeating pattern both play an important role in how a design looks and feels.

For the Terra Collection, Amelie worked with the KOKKA team to explore different print scales until they found one that felt intimate and elegant, with a quality reminiscent of Toile de Jouy, a traditional style of printed decorative fabric. The result is a collection that preserves the distinctive character of Amelie’s original artwork while allowing the patterns to come alive on fabric.

Bring Art into Everyday Life

Amelie envisions the Terra Collection being used for a variety of creative projects, from small accent pillows and tote bags to pouches, napkins, and statement garments. She especially enjoys the way a bold print can become a distinctive part of an outfit. Amelie hopes people will have fun creating with these fabrics and find their own ways to enjoy them.
