NISHIGUCHI KUTSUSHITA Japanese Socks
NISHIGUCHI KUTSUSHITA
NISHIGUCHI KUTSUSHITA comes from a family-run sock maker in Nara, Japan’s top sock-producing region. The company has made socks for three generations, building its skills by producing socks for many other brands. In 2017, it launched NISHIGUCHI KUTSUSHITA as its own label.
The brand is guided by one Japanese phrase, hakuhito omoi: “thinking of the person who will wear them.”
Fine Natural Materials
Every pair starts with carefully chosen natural fibers such as cotton, wool, linen, silk, and cashmere. Each yarn is knit to bring out its best qualities, so the socks feel soft, breathe well, and keep you comfortable all day.
How It’s Made
The factory runs more than 130 knitting machines, including vintage machines that knit slowly but are ideal for natural yarns. Veteran craftspeople, some with more than 50 years of experience, adjust each machine for every yarn and sock shape.
The Story Behind the Name
In 1950, Katsuji Nishiguchi started a small sock company called Nishiguchi Socks. Decades later, the company had changed its name, but his grandson Isato never forgot its roots. When he launched the family’s own brand, he gave it the original name, written in Japanese: NISHIGUCHI KUTSUSHITA. “Kutsushita” simply means socks.
Even with plans to sell overseas, and knowing the name might be hard for some to pronounce, he kept it. It’s a name that honors where the brand began.
Look closely at the logo, too. It’s a sock shaped like a heart.
Made to Change Your Day
NISHIGUCHI KUTSUSHITA socks aren’t meant to be worn for a season and thrown away. They’re made to be worn, washed, and loved for years. Slip on a pair and see how a good pair of socks can make an ordinary day feel a little better.
