Tomotake is the textile brand of husband-and-wife duo Masahiro and Hiroko Tomotake. Working mainly in fabric goods, they create using traditional mud-dyed cloth alongside their own original textile designs.
Their work is inspired by the small, everyday moments that catch the eye - the things worth loving simply because they're close at hand. Each piece carries the mark of the human hand: mud-dyeing, embroidered motifs, papercut patterns, and hand-drawn lines that feel personal rather than perfect.
What Makes MUDDY WORKS by Tomotake Special
Tomotake's designs start as mud-dyed artwork, created by hand using this traditional technique, then turned into textiles. Each piece carries the texture and depth of the original dye work — you get the character of mud-dyeing without the fabric itself needing to be dyed.

Tomotake's most iconic design, the anpan print has been produced across a range of fabric bases over the years, including canvas, double gauze, oxford, and lawn, giving it a place in everything from bags and pouches to garments and quilting projects. Canvas and double gauze are currently in production, so you can still get the classic anpan motif on these fan-favorite bases. Kokka Fabrics also carries exclusive anpan colorways you won't find anywhere else, making it one of the few places to get the full range of this beloved print.
