Kokka Fabrics Designer's Award Winners

Marking a year of creativity and community, Kokka Fabrics is thrilled to unveil the winners of the inaugural Kokka Fabrics Designer's Award. This competition, celebrating the artistry of KOKKA fabric enthusiasts, brought together sewing talents from all corners of the US.

Our judge, Keiko, a senior textile designer at KOKKA's Osaka head office, scrutinized the submissions, and took much consideration on choosing the winners.

Gold Award - Big Mouth Project Bag for Knitters by Karin Haack

The Gold Award goes to Karin Haack for her "Big Mouth Project Bag for Knitters." Made from the curtains of her fabric shop, the design is inspired by doctors' bags from yesteryear.

Keiko says:

"The illusion of a harmonious blend of diverse patterns is both striking and enchanting. It's truly commendable how the selected patterns for each component flawlessly complemented one another, resulting in a truly delightful and winning entry."

Silver Award - Jambo Leaf Dress by Pat

The Silver Award goes to Pat with her stunning shirt dress that is a combination of the Merchant & Mills and Marilla Walker pattern.

Keiko says:

"The dress that you made suits you exceptionally well, and it such a joy to look at. The distinct patterns and colors used were eye-catching, and when translated into clothing, they added an extra layer of charm to print, making it a standout entry."

Bronze Award - Wedding Guest Dress by Nancy

The Bronze Award goes to Nancy and her lovely nani IRO double gauze dress in the pattern Butterick 6283, which is perfect for a wedding in the unpredictable Maine weather!

"The asymmetry of the dress adds a unique and elegant touch, while the nani IRO double gauze exudes a delightful lightness. The thoughtful use of breathable rayon lining ensured both comfort and style, making it a perfect choice for a wedding."
