About Etsuko Furuya
Etsuko Furuya launched the echino brand in September 2003, beginning her journey as a textile designer by creating original designs and showcasing textile artwork. For nearly 20 years, she has led Kokka’s Designer’s Line, expressing her unique world through the medium of fabric.

What Makes echino Special
Many echino designs feature bold patterns and large areas of color. Rather than traditional repeat patterns, each design feels like a story or a painting. Another signature of echino is that the patterns are consistently oriented in one direction, with the surrounding space always in mind — whether the design is large or small.
Vibrant colors are at the heart of the echino brand.
Initially, echino was known for its colorful, high-contrast, and slightly quirky designs. In the 2015 “zon” collection, Etsuko boldly introduced black backgrounds into her designs, marking a shift in the brand’s color palette. This evolution added new depth to echino’s colorful world.
